Apple has officially announced the iPhone 13 after months of speculations and reports.
The iPhone 12 series — particularly, the iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max — was released in 2020. The iPhone 12 had a lot to offer as an update over the iPhone 11 series. Flat edges returned to the iPhone, MagSafe made a surprise cameo, and they were the first iPhones to include 5G connectivity.
After a year, the iPhone 13 family is ready to shine as the latest and greatest iPhone on the market. The iPhone 13 series, which was announced on September 14 during Apple’s virtual ‘California Streaming’ event, follows the same pattern as last year.
The iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max are all available. They appear to be nearly identical to their predecessors at first glance.
The display sizes, flat sides, and glass backs with square-ish camera bumps are all the same. However, a closer examination reveals a few noticeable changes.
Notice the notch on the iPhone 13‘s top? Every model now has a smaller version! Apple accomplished this by shrinking the Face ID components and relocating the earpiece speaker closer to the top frame.
There are reports that the notch will be totally removed with the iPhone 14 in 2022, but until then, this is a positive step forward.
The two back cameras of the iPhone 13 and 13 mini have also been repositioned, with Apple now positioning them in a diagonal arrangement.
The iPhone 13’s other design components are nearly identical. The 13 and 13 mini-feature an aluminum frame, while the Pro variants have a stainless steel frame.
There is no headphone jack, and Apple continues to use the Lightning port.
IPhone 13 Introduces 120Hz Displays, Longer Battery, And More
While there isn’t much to write about in terms of appearance, Apple has crammed in several new innovations for this generation, including ProMotion screens on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
ProMotion on the higher-end iPhone 13 models, similar to the iPad Pro, boosts the refresh rate from 60Hz to 120Hz.
This implies that everything from reading webpages to tweeting and playing games will be substantially smoother than on prior iPhones.
Then there’s the matter of the camera. A few improvements have been made to the iPhone 13 and 13 mini.
With 1.7-micron pixels and 47 percent more light, the 12MP primary camera is the biggest sensor yet in a dual-camera iPhone. Apple has also released a new 12MP ultra-wide camera with similar improvements, as well as Sensor-Shift technology, which improves focus and steadiness in all shooting situations.
Then there’s the camera configuration on the iPhone 13 Pro. The 77mm telephoto lens improves portrait photography, and the wide and ultra-wide cameras have substantially better light sensitivity. A macro photography setting for the ultra-wide camera is also new this year – a first for any iPhone.
Let’s get this party started. Apple’s latest A15 Bionic chipset powers all four phones. Apple claims that it is 50 percent faster than the main competitor and has 30 percent faster graphics.
Apple’s Neural Engine has been enhanced for even more capable machine learning tasks, with 6 CPU cores and 4 GPU cores.
Surprisingly, the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max have a quicker 5-core GPU than the standard iPhone 13 and 13 mini. Additionally, the battery life is improved.
The iPhone 13 small and 13 Pro should get 1.5 hours more battery life than their predecessors, while the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro Max should get 2.5 hours more.
The iPhone 13 and 13 mini have 128GB of storage and start at $799 and $699, respectively.
The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max have starting prices of $999 and $1099, respectively, with storage options up to 1TB for the Pros. Pre-orders will begin on Friday, September 17th, and normal sales will start on September 24th.
iPhone 13 & 13 Pro Camera Upgrades: What’s New & Improved?
The iPhone 13 is available in four different variants, each with improved camera capabilities. With the new models, Apple made it plain that it aims to push its photo and video capabilities even further, improving the hardware while also introducing some extremely fascinating new software features.
This is made possible in part by the speedier A15 processor, but Apple also boosted display brightness and refresh rates. The cameras and other video enhancements were clearly the focus of this year’s iPhone event.

This model delivers photo-quality well above lower-cost devices, with considerably better Night mode images and excellent Portrait blur that employs the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s LiDAR.
The picture sensor is larger than in the other three iPhone 12 versions, which is the most significant distinction.
Sensor-shift stabilization is a feature of that module, and it adjusts the entire image sensor on various planes to reduce photo blur and undesirable video shake.
With considerably enhanced camera technology, improved screens, and a quicker processor that enables new video capabilities, Apple’s latest iPhone 13 ups the ante once more.

Apple’s Video & Software Upgrades
The iPhone 13’s camera sensors have been vastly improved across the board. With larger apertures on wide and ultra-wide lenses, the iPhone 13 Pro models have even better low-light capabilities.
Apple didn’t stop there, either, as new video features and software updates were released for all models.
The cinematic video uses the A15 chip’s processing capability to intelligently shift focus, similar to how movies employ the rack focus effect to give drama to a scene.
People moving in from off-screen are detected by the iPhone 13 and the focus is switched to the topic as soon as they enter the frame.
If a person in the front moves away from the camera, the system will adjust the focus to make the backdrop sharp while blurring the preceding topic.
It’s one of the tools that directors use to control where the audience’s gaze lands, and it’s a really effective weapon.
The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max now have the ability to record in ProRes format, a low-compression video codec that Apple supports in Final Cut Pro, its professional editing software.
This is a terrific addition for dedicated videographers because it reduces artifacts even when the footage is severely processed.
However, because it takes up a lot of room, a high-capacity model might be preferable if you plan to use this feature frequently.
Apple has taken its camera technology to new heights, giving much of the power of the iPhone 12 Pro Max to every iPhone 13 model while also significantly improving the camera technology of the iPhone 13 Pro models.
